Love herbal tea? Wondering how to brew loose tea?
This short video is for you!
Learn the best way to brew loose leaf herbal tea for maximum potency.
Here at Southern Botanicals we get a lot of questions from people about how to brew loose
leaf tea since they're used to tea bags.
When you make tea from dried powdered herbs in teabags it may look dark but the potency
of the beneficial herbal properties just doesn't compare to loose tea.
Your loose herbal tea may have roots, berries and leaves like licorice root, peppermint
leaf or hawthorn berries in it. Making loose leaf herbal tea isn't complicated,
it just takes longer overall although your active time making it isn't more than 5 minutes
all together.
Start by measuring out 2 or 3 tablespoons of tea, depending on how strong you want it
to be, into a saucepan and add a quart of clean drinkable water.
Cover and leave the tea to soak overnight. This helps soften the herbs and start the
extraction process so you will get more health giving properties from them when you simmer them.
The next day, put the saucepan on a burner and turn up to medium high until it starts to boil.
Turn down the heat so the tea simmers for 15 minutes.
When the tea is done simmering and has cooled for a few minutes, it's ready to drink!
Just use a ladle to scoop out some of the tea to drink now. Mmm, delicious!
You can keep the rest of the tea in the pot and pour or ladle out cups to drink throughout the day.
Or, you can strain out the herbs and store
the tea in a container on the counter to drink at room temperature throughout the day.
To make your tea even more potent, grind the herbs after soaking in a blender before simmering.
This increases the potency so you can use only half the amount of herbs for each quart.
