Why You Need It
These pretty little tools make a huge difference in making a fermentation successfully and without constant fussing over your jar of vegetables.
It is important to allow the carbon dioxide to escape to from the mason jar you are using. Before vented airlocks, chefs had to manually loosen the cap of the mason jar every day or two to allow gas to escape, or their container could actually crack or explode, breaking the glass and ruining the food. With these vented airlocks, the modern chef has no problem making a ferment. The Pickle Pipes release the gas automatically as it builds up with no further attention needed! A very useful tool for making perfect ferments.
When fermenting, you also need to prevent air from entering the container because exposing the the food to oxygen could let it spoil or mold. The Pickle Pipe airlocks provide a one-way valve which allows carbon dioxide to escape, but prevents oxygen from entering the jar. Their unique one piece design is self-sealing and requires no water to make the seal.
Pickle Pipes are made of food safe, BPA-free silicone. They are top rack dishwasher safe, or just wash by hand. They easy to clean and store. These vented airlocks make fermentation easy, convenient and worry-free. We cannot say enough good about these!
